ACADEMY – AUTUMN 2008
Wednesdays 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
in the CLC
(Begins Sept 24)

The
Distinctive History
and Beliefs of the
Reformed Church
-
What does it mean to be a reformed
Christian? Where does the Bible speak of the idea of
“Presbyterian?”
-
What are the “confessions,” and why are these
documents from Switzerland, Germany, Holland, and Britain so
important?
-
What is the basis for the office of Elder?
Why is our church government most like the church of the New
Testament and first century?
-
Where does JPC fit into all this? What is our
vision for the future?
Join Dr. Sharman and the officers in the Class of
2011 as we explore these questions. This class will be the training
class for officers, but all others are welcome to observe, enjoy the
handouts and materials, and participate in a limited way. Discussion
will be animated and exciting. Come explore the wonders of Reformed
theology as well as all of the very practical implications as they
pertain to leading a 21st
century church.
Parental Guidance
Required
In our culture, parents can feel tremendous
pressure to give their kids the right "package" of experiences to
help them get ahead in life. We go to great lengths to give them the
best education. We arrange our schedules around practices,
performances, games and gatherings. We exhaust ourselves trying to
make sure that our kids don't miss out.
While childhood experiences are important, there is something far
more important that we as parents need to teach our kids -
relationship building. Specifically, there are three types of
relationships that determine how well a child is equipped to face
life: relationship with God, relationship with parents, and
relationship with others.
In this six week series, we will use Scripture and the shared
experiences of those attending as we seek to improve our parenting
skills. The class will be discussion based, and will include a brief
video teaching segment each week. It is guaranteed to be both fun
and informative. We hope you will join us starting September 24!
